Principal's Message

Mr. Roger Burger, Principal

Mr. Roger Burger

Welcome back to our Nautilus Family for the 2020-21 school year.

We are living in uncertain times but Nautilus Staff and I are confident that we will get through this together.

The beginning of the year always holds such excitement and we promise to share with you our hopes and dreams for the coming year. I speak for all Nautilus staff when I say, what a blessing and a privilege it is to serve you as we become one family this year. We are eager to work with you and our students no matter the challenges that may be ahead of us. No matter what the venue, we are committed to giving our students the opportunity to grow academically, socially, and in a safe environment.

As we open up we will continue to put the need to be safe and responsible first in our daily routine. Please keep your son or daughter home if they have any symptoms of being sick.  I will continue to communicate with you through my weekly phone blasts as I did last year. I am looking forward to continuing the efforts of our kindness challenge by following Rachel Joy Scott’s vision of “looking for the best in others, dreaming big, choose positive influences, speak with kindness and keep the positive chain of reaction going” here at Nautilus.

If you drove past the school you can’t miss our new Marquee. I would like to thank our PTSO and our District for supporting the efforts in the purchase of our marquee. Through the last three years, our PTSO, alongside the school district, have fundraised the money needed for the purchase of the marquee.

We have also enclosed our lobby in efforts to secure our building with support from the district and bond money from the override. The plans to secure our building as well as security cameras throughout the campus will help in our efforts to maintain and improve the safety of our students. We have plans to also improve our playground with new equipment and a safer play area in the near future. We very much appreciate the support of our district and their distribution of funds from the last bond and override.

In closing one of the greatest connections I have seen the past three years as your principal is the genuine compassion shared between staff, students, and parents, This past year as we walked around campus empty of students this last quarter was gut-wrenching to see. I recall seeing staff members light up as they saw their students when we had packet pickups, our Easter parade, and at our end of the year celebration. The expressions, smiles, tears were real as we tried to make the best out of a tough situation. Through it all we became a family that cared and cherished our past interactions and figured out ways to stay connected, I truly believe we will connect this year and celebrate our family at Nautilus Elementary School.

Thank you,

Roger D. Burger
